Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco isn’t trying to ruffle any feathers. The hip-hop veteran has penned an open message to jailed rapper Max B a.k.a. The Wave God over his new Drogas Wave album title.
Lupe went to Instagram last night (September 22) to clarify the true motivation behind his LP’s name and to salute Max for his own wavy movement.
Dear Max B aka Biggaveli aka Silver Surfer, First let me say that the Wave is first & foremost all yours. I know sometimes in hiphop people don’t show proper respect to the originators of the thought so let give the proper respects. While my concept for Wave as I use it wasn’t inspired by or in my mind in anyway from your approach and movement and is all part of an extended metaphor surrounding slavery etc it’s still only right to recognize crossover even at the very least in name. I hope you and your movement & fans don’t see this as a slight or underhanded attempt to capitalize while you down. My intentions are always pure and at very least I hope I was able to add another layer to what it means to be Wavy for our community. Hold ya head. Come home soon. Sincerely yours, Lupe Fiasco
